Europan 16: Lebendige Städte / Living Cities

How can we use innovative projects and planning processes in the urbanized spaces of our cities to counter social, economic, and cultural inequalities and climate change? How can we turn neglected, unused, empty, stigmatized, and monofunctional city spaces into lively, integrated, and diverse ones? In the context of the E16 competition, projects demonstrating local opportunities and transformative processes were developed for five German locations. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for many of the questions considered, identifying lively cities as desirable locations and necessary models for the future. This catalog collects the competition entries for the German sites as well as the winning entries for European sites from German competitors.
